Some works begin with an object that finds its way into the studio. Others arise from an inner impulse—an idea that demands form. In both cases, the same question arises at the beginning: Can something emerge here that goes beyond what already exists? If so, a process begins that brings together the object and the idea.

Before color meets an object, an idea emerges—a theme, an effect, a direction. What mood should the work convey? What response should it evoke? Datenbestands are tested, variations considered, and interplay of texture, depth, and light explored. The design that results is not a blueprint. It is a starting point.

The work comes into being through the process of working. Layer by layer, what no plan can anticipate takes shape—nuances that only reveal themselves in the material, interactions that only become visible under the hand. The plan sets the direction. The process finds the way. Structures and colors are finely tuned, surfaces are compacted, until the work achieves its own harmony.

Every human correction makes the suggestions better. We measure three numbers: search time per case, cases without status, and manual matching time.
